Why the 5km Fad was Destined to Fail...

How to Run a 5k…

Before anybody loses it... I LOVE running. I did it for years and we prescribe it with some of our clients.🏆 However there is a reason why the 5km nomination trend only lasted so long... 🧐

It wasnt that people ran out of goodwill to give money to charity...

⚪️

Or that we are a lazy population...

⚪️

Its simple...

⚪️

For the majority of the population. It is just too much!

⚪️

A lot of people either came out of it feeling as if they:

❌Hated running

❌Felt like their body was broken in the following days.

❌Didn't feel any sense of achievement from it.

⚪️

It sounds like nothing... a simple 5km.

⚪️

But if I asked you to swim 20 lengths you might look like ive lost it...🏊🏿‍♀️

⚪️

Its the same thing.

It was just too much too soon.

So what do you have to do to make it "easier".

Here we go...

🔥MAKE RUNNING A HABIT:🔥

What has been done wrong so far is:

❌People running after not running for so long. Therefore too much volume too soon.

❌Running for distance rather than duration.

(5km for someone experienced may take 25 minutes. Inexperienced 40 minutes. That means you are doing double the work than someone who is "quicker"🤯 Meaning YOU are doing more! 🤯)

WHAT TO DO:

✅Go for duration and time one your feet.

✅Running 2 times a week with your Strength training and conditioning is more than enough.

✅Start at 20 minutes on week 1. (then add 10% every week) 20 - 22 - 24 - 27 - 30 mins.

✅Walk and Jog it.

✅Enjoy it!

Still want to do you 5km route? Thats fine...

Do it once now.

5 weeks time after adhering to the above guidelines.

Try it again...

😎

Then tell me how you got on🔥

Leave your competitive self at the door as you head off on your runs.
